'Spending warm summer days indoors, writing frightening verse...'

I long for the days when youth stood up against the -isms of the world, and all the corporations and the fake plastic ideals pissing across the radio frequency. Often it didn’t even require much effort - we just had enough sense to not fall in to the stupid traps the majority of our age demographic fell for, we had independent thought and a thirst for education about the world’s corruption, prejudice and greed - and did our best by not lowering ourselves to their level. We held often unpopular opinions and stances regardless of the unpopularity taking a stand forced upon us. These days it seems somewhat trendy to have blurred “keep people wondering if i’m serious or not” convictions and ethics, to be controversial and ironic. To be known as the rebel bastard with a hitler infatuation. You can pretend to be bastards if you think it’s working for you, but just know I see through the transparent persona and I pity you for your weakness. It’s a sad state of affairs when racism and sexism are the jokes used by teenage clowns to be cool.I will always be proud to have come from punk, being raised by Ian Mackaye and Kathleen Hanna, losing myself in black flag tattoos and my disconnect for the world.
